Every so often I get an email or a "convo" (in Etsy) from someone who takes the time to let me know that they really like my work. I appreciate every single comment I get and appreciate even more the person who took a bit of time to send along some kind words that always have a way of making my day a bit brighter.
One of these people is Jennifer W. She contacted me almost a month ago about this pendant:
She was really into this piece and asked if there would be a way for me to make another one.
This piece was purchased by a different Jennifer (Jennifer B.) back in April, and that Jennifer was lucky enough to get the piece with the one and only Vintage Bakelite "One Circle" tile I've ever gotten my hands on. I've been searching for another ever since, but to no avail.
I let Jennifer W. know that I did have 3 more corners of the original French Stock Certificate, so she promptly reserved one and we agreed that we would look for something else that would work for both of us as an appropriate centerpiece for the pendant.
Well, this past weekend we found it. She chose to go with some of that really incredible Antique French Transfer Foil Leaf that I used as the gold framework in this piece:
I LOVE that stuff! It's a bit tricky to work with, but it is such a beautiful material. So, she and I bounced some ideas back and forth and this Photoshop mockup is what we came up with:
I got started on it today. The resin is always first...this helps stabilize these fragile materials so they don't disintegrate when I'm handling them for measuring, assembly, etc. It also protects them in the end product so the owner doesn't have to worry so much about the material being damaged in day to day handling. The foil will also have a very thin disk of glass over it to further protect it. Here are some production shots of the 2 graphic elements during the first of many resin pours:
